Tip of the Week

Do you have a nasty microwave?  If so, nuke a bowl of water and 1 lemon (split in half) for 10 min. on High.  Discard lemon and wipe the mess away.

Tip of the Week: Orange Honey

"Liquid gold" is a popular phrase for this fantastic by product made from busy bees.  I recently discovered a way to infuse honey with various flavors without paying a premium price.  Most honey that is sold in the US is clover honey.  One of my favorite fruits is the Valencia orange. Why not make orange honey?

All you need is a jar of clover honey and a 1" piece of orange zest (preferably from Valencia oranges).  Pop in the zest and leave for 1 day.  Discard the zest and enjoy your new orange honey.  This is a great substitute for orange blossom honey.

Tip of the Week

What could be better than the fantastic fall season?  Candied bacon of course.

Change the game up and make a one pound bacon weave. Then top it with brown sugar, cinnamon and REAL maple syrup. Bake at 350 until its crispy and delicious.  Cut into 4 pieces and layer it with four pumpkin waffles.  Dump hot maple syrup on top and enjoy.  Stay tuned for more tips & techniques from Cooking Central.

Halloween Cooking Tip

Apples are probably one of my favorite fruits during the fall.  You can make pies, cakes, muffins, etc.  However, they oxidize very quickly and turn brown.  Most people say throw them in lemon water.  If you have no lemons, you can also put them in very cold water with kosher salt mixed in.  Be sure to rinse off the excess salt and drain well before using in your recipe.
